The redesign gives the Folio two explicit starting points: a curated Shakespeare corpus and a separate space for a reader’s own text.
In brief
The primary navigation now names the choices plainly as Shakespeare and Enter Text. The corpus desk begins unselected with “Choose sonnet”, while the custom-text page remains a dedicated, shareable workspace rather than an overloaded state of the corpus tool.
Make the source boundary visible
The Shakespeare workspace is for locally held sonnets, plays, acts, scenes and passages. Its selection controls describe what is available before any source is chosen. This avoids implying that a default sonnet is either required or the only representative reading.
The Enter Text workspace has a different promise: it lets readers bring a short passage to the same transparent reconstruction without confusing that passage with the project corpus. Both paths retain their own shareable state, and both lead back to the same published methodology and guide.
Consequence
Separating inputs is a clarity decision, not a split in scholarly standards. Readers can see whether they are examining a selected source or their own supplied text, then use the comparison panes and copyable link without guessing what the page has loaded. The earlier corpus-selector record remains the source history for the local corpus itself.
